Jamaica Plain

The bit of Boston
people don’t leave.

Lamartine Street runs parallel to the Orange Line between Green Street and Stony Brook. You are a few minutes from the T, a walk from the Pond, and far enough from the noise of the city to hear birds in the morning.

The Orange Line, two ways

Green Street is the nearest stop and Stony Brook is the next one down, so if one is closed you simply walk to the other. Both are a short walk from the front door.

Counting stops inbound from Green Street: Stony Brook, Jackson Square, Roxbury Crossing, then Ruggles for Northeastern at four. Back Bay is six, Tufts Medical Center seven, Downtown Crossing nine and North Station twelve.

For the Longwood Medical Area, most people ride to Ruggles and walk or take a shuttle across. The Southwest Corridor park runs beside the line the entire way into town, which makes the bike commute genuinely pleasant rather than merely possible.

Centre Street

The neighborhood’s main run of restaurants, bars, bookshops and coffee. Long enough to spend an evening on and small enough that people recognise you.

Jamaica Pond

A mile and a half loop round the water, part of the Emerald Necklace. Sailing in summer, and the walk everyone in JP defaults to.

The Arnold Arboretum

Two hundred and eighty acres of Harvard’s tree collection, open to the public and free, at the southern end of the neighborhood.

Southwest Corridor Park

A linear park and bike path laid over the Orange Line, running from Forest Hills to Back Bay. The commuting route worth having.

Stony Brook and Brewery Complex

The old Haffenreffer brewery site, now home to the Sam Adams brewery, a taproom and a cluster of small businesses.

Shops and groceries

Whole Foods, Stop & Shop and the Egleston Square and Hyde Square markets are all within a short ride or a decent walk.
